The Creation of Self
And Its Happy Ending
The Creation of Self
It is
the separate me
that is not eternal
I, on the other hand
am eternal
I am pure awareness
and pure awareness
is selfless
but at some long-ago point
did somehow manage
and that is the mystery
to do some selfing
managed to fragment into
sentient fragments
into sentient selves
And then some more
and some more
times a trillion
times a trillion
times a trillion
ad infinitum
(well, almost)
And then
for good measure
some more
each little self
with its own little view
and its own little pain
and its own little pleasure
and its own little
me, me, me, me, me
to maintain
at all costs
That’s its remit
And its own little hands
and its own little feet
and its own little tentacles
and its own little sorrow
and its own little past
and its own little future
always me, me, me, me
me, me, me, me
to maintain
at all costs
That’s its remit
And the price of
all this selfing?
For all this me-ing?
You must not
remember
You will not
remember
You cannot
remember
You must remain
ignorant
You will remain
ignorant
For remembering
truly remembering
will cause this whole
edifice to crumble
to dissolve
to unite into
a once again
pure, self-less
me-less
very infinitum
awareness
And that would be
the not at all
miserable ending
of us all
