The Buddha recognized the perniciousness of sex, and basically outlawed it in the Sangha.
Many monks, especially in the past, enter the same celibacy path.
But Mother nature does not look too kindly upon such escape attempts, and has a way of tightening the screws (as in opening the faucets wider) to the point where it takes a Saint, indeed, to transcend the procreative imperative.
