Not to mention Origen, who was eventually anathema’d out of Christianity altogether for daring to suggest the pre-existence of the soul (prior to body-birth, i.e., reincarnation). What? No Hell? How are we going to keep the flock in line?

Did you read Edwin F. Bryant’s translation of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras? One of my very favorite books. Also, Shankara’s Crest Jewel of Discrimination: by Viveka-Chudamani along with Christopher Isherwood.
