Most pig & poke troubles can be avoided by doing as Hemmingway did. Hemmingway’s habit was to write for two hours, then spend the next two hours scratching out superfluous words.

I read somewhere that Hemingway said that a 500 word cable (reporting from the Spanish Civil War) would cost the paper $10, and a 300 word cable would cost them $20.
