I "left" Dylan after "New Morning" so I cannot personally testify to the many masterpieces he no doubt wrote throughout his career. I know that he has even inspired spiritual teachers like Taigen Dan Leighton.
"Ballad in Plain D," which I read somewhere that Dylan regretted recording as it might have been hurtful to those involved, was clearly written by Dylan and remains one of the best songs I know.
If I come across dismissive of Dylan, it stems, partially, from the shock of "Restless Farewell" (which in some way I took as a betrayal) and of his dissing the Nobel Committee, which I have a hard time coming to grips with.
For some reason, the post New Morning Dylan never spoke to me, not like Joni Mitchell did and still does.
