I agree that Alan Wallace is rather extreme; I am thinking of his “Attention Revolution” where he states that you have to manage thought-free focus on, say, the breath for at least three hours to even consider having attained Shamatha; and he states elsewhere that only a very, very few (count them on one hand few) have attained Shamatha today — that does not extend much hope, does it?
